Trail of Thought

Here we go..

Right, well, I have been thinking a lot about what ideas to base my next post on. But this morning, it came to me; SCHOOL!

It's currently Sunday, I'm half way through the day and it seems as though the weekend has flown by. I remember thinking to myself on Friday;

"at least I still have the weekend to do my homework.."

And, guess what?

I haven't done a minute of studying.

So, as a procrastinator, I decided to delay my homework by writing this blog. I'd like to begin by posting my opinion on homework, then maybe I'll dive head first into the topic of school.

Homework; Work of the Home..

I remember very vividly how much I used to despise homework as a child. I often complained that it was a waste of time and unfair to give children any form of responsibility. I used to fight with my parents when they tried to convince me to learn my spellings or struggle with simple formulas. Yes, it's fair to say that along with most of the children my age, I did hate homework.

However, despite the years of complaints from children all over the world, I have come to accept the concept of homework. I'm not saying I like it, not at all, but I definitely think it is a necessity. Now that I am studying A-Levels, it has become more apparent that homework is very important.

"If you read and memorise the whole text book, you'll probably get a C grade."

Once you reach post-16 education, you are suddenly crushed with a lot more responsibility. I chose to attend a sixth form in the hope that I would be freed from some of these. In the fact that the teachers would motivate me to keep at it, to do my homework and make the best of my education. However, a lot of my teachers seem to take the attitude that if I fail to bring my books, or do my homework, then it is my problem. I think the first step they'll take is to put in "a cause for concern"; it's a type of 'dreaded' letter that makes it's way back to your parents with a full blown moan scribbled across it.

So, I'm starting to get to grips with the concept of "self teaching", as long as your teachers can provide a basis of a section of the subject you're studying, it isn't so hard to learn the rest on your own. Thanks to modern technology, almost anything can be found on the internet. Of course, there are the good old fashioned libraries, personally, I think a good book is the better choice. A lot of the information on the internet can be bias or just wrong. With a book (if you know what you're looking for) the information you'll be reading is likely to be much more reliable.

So, overall I think homework is a very important aspect of education, I'm not saying that it is impossible to achieve without it. You'd definitely struggle and probably come out with poor grades, but if you want the best out of your education; just to get on with it.

I admit I did go off on a bit of a tangent here, so I might not have covered everything I wanted to, but I can't be bothered to go back and read over it. I really need to get on with some work..
